Some physical aspects of bioelectric phenomena.

چکیده
3 If the same standard state is assumed for the solution in both phases S would be unity, but it is more convenient to assume different standard states so that as long as the properties of the two phases remain constant S will be constant but as a rule its value will not be unity. 4 The partition coefficient includes only the ions K+ and Cl-. It would not be constant if it included the undissociated KCI in X (but this undissociated part would not affect the diffusion potential), cf. Osterhout, W. J. V., J. Gen. Physiol., 26, 293 (1942-1943). 5 If sufficient K+ is present in the external solution there is no recovery since the accumulative forces do not produce a sufficiently great outwardly directed activity gradient of K+. 6 I.e., cations tend to flow across the protoplasFi from the sap to the external solution.

Computational Methods and Software for Bioelectric Field Problems
Computer modeling and simulation continue to become more important in the field of bioengineering. The reasons for this growing importance are manyfold. First, mathematical modeling has been shown to be a substantial tool for the investigation of complex biophysical phenomena. Second, since the level of complexity one can model parallels the existing hardware configurations, advances in compute...
متن کاملBioelectric Potentials in Halicystis Viii. the Effects of Light* by L. R. Blinks
Bioelectric effects of illumination are most familiar in animal organs like the retina, but they have also been known in plants since the work of Haake, t Klein, ~ Querton, s A. D. Wailer, 4 and especially J. C. Waller? Other workers e-l~ have also described responses, usually with a rather complex time course, which is difficult to analyze in any consistent fashion. Although some colorless pla...
متن کاملUse of a bioelectric impedance device in obese and lean healthy dogs to estimate body fat percentage.
A hand-held bioelectric impedance device was used to obtain body fat percentages from obese and lean healthy client-owned dogs. Bioelectric impedance values were compared with body condition scores assigned on a 9-point scale during physical examination to evaluate the correlation of these two methods for assessing body composition. A good correlation was revealed between body fat percentage as...
متن کاملSome Implications for Biology of Recent Theoretical and Experimental Studies of Ion Permeation in Model Membranes
This paper is an early, and possibly premature, examination of some consequences of different mechanisms of ion permeation in the hope of providing a basis for progressing beyond the present treatments of bioelectric phenomena (cf. Hodgkin, Huxley, and Katz, 1952a, b, c, d, e) which, in the absence of knowledge of the details of the mechanism by which ions cross biological membranes, have neces...
